The 34th International Emmy Awards took place on November 20, 2006, at the Hilton Hotel in New York City, United States and hosted by Irish comedian Graham Norton.[1]


The nominees for the 34th International Emmy Awards were announced by International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in 9 October 2006, at a press conference at MIPCOM in Cannes.

With a record five nominations each, Brazil and Germany lead the dispute between artists from Asia, Europe and South America nominees for the International Emmys. The United Kingdom again received the most nominations, getting 17 of the 36 nominations in nine categories, including for art, best actor and actress, children's, comedy and drama documentary.[2]

In addition to the presentation of the International Emmy Awards for programming, the Academy paid tribute Steven Spielberg with the Founders Award, and Ronald S. Lauder, founder and director of Central European Media Enterprises with the Directorate Award.[3]

UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Susan Sarandon presented an award for children’s broadcasting, Ecaterina Telescu accepted the International Children’s Day of Broadcasting (ICDB) Award on behalf of TeleRadio-Moldova.[4] The other five nominees up for the honour came from Bangladesh, Colombia, Gambia, Spain and Syria.
